VINTAGE AVON DING DONG,AVON CALLING #TBT POST

This post goes back to November 2014 and how things have changed since
then, not only have Avon been through some difficult times, but some international
markets have even closed e.g. France, Australia and New Zealand
More and more sales are conducting online, but the Avon Ladies and now Men are still
an important part of the sales force...

~~~~~~
Having spent most of my life in the beauty industry I am thoroughly enjoying finding these vintage print ads on Pinterest and the internet.
This is a collection of ads from that household brand Avon, which believe it or not,
has been around for over 130 years.
Avon Products, Inc. is a multi-level marketing company in beauty, household, and personal care categories. Avon had annual sales of $4.7 billion worldwide in 2019.
It is the fourteenth-largest beauty company and is the second largest direct-selling enterprise in the world.
Avon have been empowering women since 1886 and is the world's leading direct seller of beauty and related products  Avon sells products in over 100 countries through their independent sales force of over 6.4 million representatives - which were back then fondly known as
 "Avon Ladies".
The original Avon lady was always well groomed and would carry her beauty wares in a case.
 I even remember a TV ad back in the UK from the 1960's, which showed such female carrying her Avon case and ringing the doorbell of a house, it went something like this..
Ding Dong Ding Dong..."Avon calling".
I have managed to find a collection of TV ads on YouTube from the 60's onwards.
Today these ladies have had to step aside to make way for a
new a new type of "beauty"
 the "Avon catalogue".
Avon representatives now show the catalogue to customers in their homes, at work, at social or leisure activities or to their friends and family. The representatives then send the orders to Avon and the products are delivered free of charge directly to the representatives' homes.
Enjoy!
VINTAGE BEAUTY ADVERTISEMENTS
I was busy the other day on Pinterest, which I am slightly addicted to, and came across these great Vintage magazine and newspaper ads. They obviously caught my eye as they are all pertaining to beauty.I thought I would share them with you as it really just goes to show that even though lots has changed over the past 50 years, not much has changed at all!
Enjoy!
This was a Revlon Lipstick magazine print ad from 1959. The names may change,but the colours stay the same and all of these colours are right on trend for this summer.
Dr.G.Payot now known as Payot, make-up ad from 1960
Pink was certainly an "attention grabber" back in the day
and guess what... it still is today.
I have to say...I love this shade of pink from Arden (before they added the Elizabeth)
MAKE-UP OF THE 60'S
I am a child of the 60's but I must admit it could easily have been the 50's, as I was a December baby...thanks mum! as the 60's do sound more exciting and obviously younger than the 1950's...
What were the make-up trends of the 1960's?
The Make-up houses that lead the way were the likes of
Revlon
 Max Factor
Helena Rubenstein
 and
Avon
Below are a selection of the colours,models and advertising that was used to attract our attention and encourage us to buy...
I would like to say we have moved on with the hairstyles, the overall look and the advertisers catch lines, but no doubt after 50 years the shades are still the same & still used by all the houses but just renamed....many times over!
Revlon 1969
Un-noucing 'Un-Lipstick" by Natural Wonder. It's pale but the shine won't fail. Bare, but the colour's there (and never, never changes on your lips.) In gleamy little mouth colour's like Ivory Blizzord, Frozen Peaches, Sheer Shaver Pink and nothing frosted and available in 24 colours.
 Helena Rubenstein 1967
New Metallic Rage! For lips - three precious metal tones. Bronze Rage! Gold Rage! Silver Rage! Plus three shades that hint of glint, rage with colour. For eyes - Shadow shades that reflect the shimmer of your smile. Bronze Rage! Gold Rage! Silver Rage!
Avon 1968
Wear Avon's Ultra Sheer make up...shimmering, translucent. expressive. In today's beautiful new pink tones, these Ultra Sheer accents and basics are all subtly colour controlled by you.
After searching the big World Wide Web for info on beauty and fashion of the 1960's
I came across a website Ultra Swank.
Ultra Swank takes you back in time into the kitsch, chic and swank living of the 50s, 60s and the 70s. We mainly focus on the design, architecture and the lifestyle of the happy-go-lucky and space-age-living mentality of that era – but also on the music and movies that takes you back to happier times. Ultra Swank is run by a dedicated team of time travelers born in the wrong decade.
So if you are into retro then pay them a visit and a must view are the sexist advertisement section...Oh my goodness!
