VINTAGE AVON DING DONG,AVON CALLING #TBT POST

This post goes back to November 2014 and how things have changed since
then, not only have Avon been through some difficult times, but some international
markets have even closed e.g. France, Australia and New Zealand
More and more sales are conducting online, but the Avon Ladies and now Men are still
an important part of the sales force...

~~~~~~
Having spent most of my life in the beauty industry I am thoroughly enjoying finding these vintage print ads on Pinterest and the internet.
This is a collection of ads from that household brand Avon, which believe it or not,
has been around for over 130 years.
Avon Products, Inc. is a multi-level marketing company in beauty, household, and personal care categories. Avon had annual sales of $4.7 billion worldwide in 2019.
It is the fourteenth-largest beauty company and is the second largest direct-selling enterprise in the world.
Avon have been empowering women since 1886 and is the world's leading direct seller of beauty and related products  Avon sells products in over 100 countries through their independent sales force of over 6.4 million representatives - which were back then fondly known as
 "Avon Ladies".
The original Avon lady was always well groomed and would carry her beauty wares in a case.
 I even remember a TV ad back in the UK from the 1960's, which showed such female carrying her Avon case and ringing the doorbell of a house, it went something like this..
Ding Dong Ding Dong..."Avon calling".
I have managed to find a collection of TV ads on YouTube from the 60's onwards.
Today these ladies have had to step aside to make way for a
new a new type of "beauty"
 the "Avon catalogue".
Avon representatives now show the catalogue to customers in their homes, at work, at social or leisure activities or to their friends and family. The representatives then send the orders to Avon and the products are delivered free of charge directly to the representatives' homes.
Enjoy!
AVÈNE COLD CREAM NOURISHING BODY LOTION {REVIEW}
I recently realised that all of my body lotions are fragranced
and I don't have any fragrance free options in my collection.
I came across this body lotion from one of my favourite fragrance free,
hypoallergenic French skincare brands Avène.
The Avène Cold Cream Nourishing Body Lotion
 forms part of the Cold Cream range, which is a product line
formulated to restore the hydrolipidic film in sensitive dry to very dry skin.
This small range of products for the face and body is purely aimed to
to leave the skin feeling ,restored, nourished and soothed.
I have reviewed their Cold Cream Lip Cream when I visited the UK during Winter
 a couple of years ago and I can assure you it was severely put to the test
I found the formula of this body lotion to be both light and non greasy.
It combines the natural botanical oils of Coconut,Safflower and Sesame
and leaves a velvety soft, comforted, supple, soft finish to the skin.
It was super easy to apply and the handy dispensing pump made it
not only quick, but each pump was controllable and avoided
unnecessary wastage.
After several weeks of use, I can highly recommend this body lotion
as it has filled that void in my lotion/cream collection of a simple, easy to use,
yet effective daily application of restorative moisture.
Not only great for sensitive skins, but ideal if you want to avoid clashes between
a fragrance and a different fragranced body lotion.
Another plus factor with this product is the price, as it comes in a 400ml size
and retails for R199.95 and that equates to good value in my
"beauty book".
DR.GOBAC COSMECEUTICALS CLEANSER {REVIEW}
Dr Gobac isn't a brand that I'm too familiar with, other than having heard of the
brand and knowing that it's a South African Cosmeceutical range retailed through
skincare specialists,salons,spas and dermatologists I know little else.
But first lets address what Cosmeceutical products are and how do they differ
from Cosmetic products:
Cosmeceutical products contain key active ingredients in high enough
concentrations to effect positive changes in the skin.
These active ingredients penetrate into the deeper levels of the skin and act on
the skin’s cellular structure, stimulating the production of healthy collagen.
They are stronger than cosmetic grade products, but they do not require a medical prescription to dispense.
A skin analysis and consultation with a therapist is recommended to address skin
concerns and conditions before using a Cosmeceutical product.
I was kindly sent this cleanser by the PR company and as I'm always on the look out
for new products and ranges to try and even more so if they up the anti
with my existing anti ageing skincare regime.
Let me give you a brief overview of the ethos of DR. GOBAC® COSMECEUTICALS
The DR. GOBAC® COSMECEUTICALS range of products is created to be simple,
easy to use, eco and health friendly and they are not tested on animals
The range is based on DR. GOBAC’s own experience as a medical doctor
and practitioner of integrated health.
After many years of intense scientific research DR. GOBAC and his team of
 chemists and scientists have developed this advanced and high effective
 skin care range.
DR. GOBAC® COSMECEUTICALS products are non-invasivenon-aggressive
and offer a healthy approach to combating signs of ageing by
 stimulating and facilitating the skin’s natural healing process.
DR. GOBAC® CLEANSER
is formulated to cleanse gently but thoroughly while preserving the
skin’s natural hydro lipidic barrier.
This milky, fragrance free, soothing cleanser has both anti-bacterial and
anti-inflammatory properties, making it an absolute pleasure to use.
(This cleanser is used in the conventional way and can be removed
with either water or cotton wool)
I put this cleanser to the test in various ways and it removed
heavy make up, as part of a double cleanse, with surprising ease.
Yet it was remarkably gentle when a single cleanse was all that was needed
 on those no make-up days.
I can only imagine how wonderfully soothing and healing this cleanser would be
on a sensitive, delicate skin.
(They do have a face wash available if you're not a milky cleanser lover)
I really enjoyed the packaging, as it comes in an airless pump dispenser ensuring
 that it remains contaminant free, which is vital for a compromised skin,
especially after any facial procedure.
Another plus for this type of container is that you can easily control the amount
 of product dispensed ensuring less product wastage and that feature
 always gets my vote.
Overall I was impressed with my first product from the
DR. GOBAC® COSMECEUTICALS Range and whilst a cleanser is a good intro product,
they appear to have a highly effective,compact anti-ageing range
 consisting of Vitamin A & Regenerating Serums and even advanced anti-ageing
serum called BIORESTORE NEEDLE FREE
which I have to say, are all up "my skincare street".
Hopefully I will bring you some more reviews in the future.
 DR. GOBAC® COSMECEUTICALS
is available at selected stockist s throughout Europe and the UK.
MONTHLY FAVOURITES {JULY AND AUGUST 18}
It's time for my July & August Monthly Favourites post and just as a reminder,
I do try many products over a two month period.
Only my true, absolute faves will make an appearance on this type of post,
those products that I can confidently recommend you to buy and ones I would
confidently re-purchase with my own money.
1.
As you can see I'm becoming a bit huge fan of Urban Decay.
They recently opened a store not 3 minutes from house which is going to be
a problem for my credit card, I can already sense it.
As their logo says its "Beauty with an Edge" but don't be put if you think you're
not edgy (I'm certainly not) as I found out they have a great selection of lipsticks
 and I've fallen in love with the texture of their Vice Cream Lipsticks.
2.
Sticking with Urban Decay I also found my all time favourite eye and face palette
(and that's some claim coming from me)
and I'm already stressing slightly, as to what I'll do when mine comes to an end,
 as it is a Ltd Edition and it's already sold out here in South Africa.
However, a little bird has told me that 30 more BACKTALK palette may, only may
 appear on their website in October,
 so check out my review below to find out why I love this palette so much.
(I suggest that you sign up to their newsletter to be kept in the UD beauty loop..
I have)
3.
It seems so long ago since I reviewed this True Match Highlight from L'Oréal
and I'm still loving it.
My tube is sadly depleting and hopefully it's a basic stock item and I can pick one
 up on my next trip to the UK in November, but it would be even better if
L'Oréal launched it here in SA for summer.
URBAN DECAY VICE CREAM LIPSTICK {REVIEW}
Lipsticks and Lip glosses are my most purchased cosmetic items
and I honestly didn't need to buy anymore, but I did!
Like a magpie, I'm drawn to them and I was truly like a kid in a candy store
when the latest URBAN DECAY store opened its doors in Gateway recently.
They seemed to have zillions of eye catching shades and formula's on display,
just a slight excited exaggeration I know, but in fact they do have an
extensive selection.
 From bold brights to Dark, sexy shades and super-versatile neutrals their lipstick
 shade range seems to have it all, as there's something for everyone.
Their infamous Vice Lipstick comes in a massive lineup of over 100 shades
and in six finishes.
so here's a quick run down of what's on offer regarding their formula's :
MEGA MATTE:
 super-intense matte
COMFORT MATTE:
 our creamiest matte
CREAM:
 the original: creamy, badass luxury
METALLIZED:
 cream with a high level of pearl
SHEER:
 a punch of colour with a sheer, shiny finish
SHEER SHIMMER:
 slightly transparent finish with floating pearl and a smooth texture
I decided to go for a trusted Cream formula in the shade VIOLATE
 and having never used an
UD Lipstick before I wasn't too sure what to expect.
This Cream formula has a super-creamy texture, which I enjoy and is packed
with nourishing ingredients, leaving the lips soft and conditioned and never dry.
 Aloe vera, jojoba, avocado and babassu oils nourish and soften lips.
Illipe butter (derived from Malaysian illipe trees) provides long-lasting moisture.
 Whilst Vitamin C and vitamin E provide a hit of antioxidants.
You will be pleased to know that just one swipe provides
an unbelievable lay down of colour and it stayed longer than many
other cream lipsticks of a similar price that I own.
The pigment load in all of the Vice Lipstick is insane
and the Cream formula applied smoothly (without dragging or skipping)
 and to be honest, it feels amazing on the lips.
After the first application I was in love and could only then fully understand
 all the buzz around the URBAN DECAY Vice Lipsticks, not only do they
deliver, have beautiful packaging, but they're also
slightly very addictive, which I wasn't expecting!
This is my 2nd review that I've posted Posts about
URBAN DECAY
and so far I'm loving what this brand has to offer and it only goes to
confirm my tweak to their logo
DOVE DERMASPA SUMMER REVIVED BODY LOTION WITH SELF TANNERS {REVIEW}
As part of Doves recently launched DermaSpa Collection
everything about this product the
Dove DermaSpa Summer Revived Body Lotion
sounded great on paper, as it's a
 " body lotion with self tanners for a natural bronzed glow"
Combining Doves skin care expertise with natural tanners, I thought it would be
a great way to get that sun kissed look throughout winter or better still,
as the name suggests,revive any remains of my summer tan.
It combines gentle, natural tanners and Dove Cell-Moisturisers®
(key moisturising actives made from natural seed oils),
which work at the heart of your skin cells*. This helps to keep your skin soft
and smooth and makes that tan look even better.
This golden, quite luxurious feeling cream, did absorb easily into my skin
leaving it feeling nourished, comfortable and non oily.
The idea is that this type of product can be used daily over the body
to moisturise the skin and to give a natural on going, buildable
bronzed glow.
I must also make mention that this product does have that fake tan smell,
which I personally am not a fan of.
As with all gradual or fake tans you do need to wash your hands thoroughly
after application to avoid staining and remember that these type products
generally do not have any SPF included so you will still need to use a
 separate one to prevent burning.
Admittedly I was slightly hesitant to purchase, as it seems that despite being
available internationally in two options, Fair to Medium and Medium to Dark,
 it appears that we only have the Fair to Medium here in SA.
 Unfortunately I went against my all important "gut feeling" and bought a tube,
despite have those niggling doubts that it wouldn't be the correct one
for my skin tone.
I was correct,as it didn't really do much to give me a healthy bronzed glow
and I feel that the Medium-Dark would have been a far better option.
 Another problem for me and one that I really couldn't handle, was
 that typical pungent chemical smell of fake tans,which unfortunately
lingers on the skin.
So on paper this product sounded great, but sadly in practise it wasn't so great.
If you have a very fair skin and don't mind the smell too much, then this easy to
apply gradual tanning body lotion could be one for you.
BEAUTY PRODUCTS CURRENTLY UNDER REVIEW {AUGUST 18}
I normally post my "Currently Under Review" posts right at the beginning
of a new month, but after being "woman down" with flu
I'm running rather late with this one.
This month I have a couple of Urban Decay lip products to try and as promised
another product from BioNike.
I also have a product from a brand, Dr Gobac and having never tried anything from
this brand before, so I'm looking forward to experiencing something totally new.
1.
I recently went to the launch of the Urban Decay store in Gateway
and I picked up several of their products including one of their
 infamous Vice Lipstick and a HI-FI Shine Lipgloss,
 so I'm going to give these two lip products a try and as always I will let you
know whether they're worth parting with your hard earned cash or not.
2.
BioNike is an affordable Italian face and body care range that's available
 exclusively at Dischem. I have reviewed several of their products and I was super impressed with their 15fruIT XSENSE Multi Sensorial Oil, that it even made it
onto my Top 3 Body Products List for 2017.
It's a brand that I've wanted to explore further and I've been kindly sent their
DEFENCE HYDRA5 OPTHYDRA Nourishing Moisturising Cream
 to put to the test.
3.
Dr Gobac is a South African Cosmeceutical skincare brand based mainly
 on botanical ingredients and I have to admit that I know very little about,
so I'll need to do some research on this brand whilst trying out their Cleanser.
