URBAN DECAY HI-FI SHINE ULTRA CUSHION LIP GLOSS {REVIEW}

Some time ago I bought several Urban Decay products and I have slowly been reviewing them over the past few months.

This is my final product from that recent haul and again I've been blown away

by how impressed I have been with each and every product that I bought.

What I've experienced over the years is that I perhaps love some products from a brand

 and then I find some that hugely disappoint,but so far this hasn't

happened with Urban Decay and I'm sure they've got some weaker products

lurking in their product lineup.

As I've said in my previous reviews Urban Decay is for all ages and I'm proof of that and whilst UD, isn't budget in price it has delivered on product performance

I do love a good Lip Gloss and the HI-FI Shine Ultra Cushion Lip Gloss appealed 

to me instantly.

Laced with vitamin E and peppermint oil, the hydrating formula leaves lips feeling nourished, has an immediate plumping effect and comes in a yummy vanilla-mint flavour.

 This gloss is super comfortable to wear and doesn't have a sticky or tacky feel to it

which so many lip glosses can have.

 Unfortunately as we age, the lines around our mouth become deeper and more noticeable and the last thing we need is a feathering, bleeding lipstick or lip gloss that draws attention to the mouth area,

so good news... this one doesn't do either, but what it does do is

 instantly makes those thinning lips feel plumper. 

There are 22 shades to chose from and covers everything from blaring brights 

to soft neutrals in four different effects—metallic, holographic, cream and sheer cream.  

I must say some colours and the effects are way out there

 for the more mature of us, whilst other shades are just perfect.

I opted for the shade BACKTALK to compliment my BACKTALK palette 

and it was right up my "Lipstick Street".

(cream formula, not super glossy, perfect shade)

It's described as a Mauve-nude pink and even though its richly pigmented the longevity can't be compared to my Vice Cream Lipstick, but as far as lip glosses fair,

 it made me Urban Decay happy...

I must also mention the sleek packaging which has 2 clear shade sides that 

and allows for a quick colour check and grab out of the depths of a handbag.

Another interesting and noticeable feature of this lip gloss is the latest technology

 flexible, flocked-silicone paddle applicator that

 allows you to swipe on a generous, even layer of gloss and there's no need to double dip.

This technology also prevents the applicator from disintegrating and the neck of the 

gloss stays fairly clean unlike some that get so dirty and sticky with gloss build up.

MY TOP 5 MAKE-UP PRODUCTS 2018

During 2018 I found myself reviewing and trying more make-up products

than I have in any previous year, making this a tough category to keep to

only 5 items.

I've discovered many new products and brands that I've incorporated into my

make-up bag for daily use, but here are my 5 most used and loved items.

Urban Decay 

BACKTALK Palette

Having been caught out, in the past, by a couple of hyped up products from various brands I was a little wary of buying into this eyeshadow and blusher palette

 unseen online from Urban Decay and then they

opened a store literally on my doorstep and all resistance crumbled.

Having now bought several products from Urban Decay I have to say I'm

 absolutely loving this make-up brand.

I knew that this palette would make it onto my Top List for 2018

after a just a couple of uses, as that's how much I love this collection of eyeshadows,

blushers and highlighter, it's as though it was made for me.

I reach for this palette daily, all shades are used and it makes a perfect travel companion, however this was a limited edition and I'm already panicking as I've hit pan on a 

couple of shades.

Another Urban Decay products has made it onto this list in the form of the

Vice Lipstick, which again I just adore the texture and this particular shade Violate

makes it my go to since purchasing it.

Mascara

Again I just knew early on that this was a mascara for me.

I love the formula and the fact that the wand can be angled, so much easier for

application.

 I've already bought "back up" stock on my recent trip to the UK and hopefully

we won't have to wait too long for it to be launched in South Africa

L'Oréal

Bonjour Nudista

Awakening Skin Tint

I had been searching for sometime for a product that gave me that

"no make-up make-up" look, you know the kind I mean, well I found it

with this skin tint from L'Oréal, sadly it's not available in South Africa.

(I have contacted L'Oréal PR to try and find out about several of the products

that I've reviewed to see if they're scheduled to be launched in SA or not, but

sadly to no avail)

I do reach for this product most days and its also great to mix in with my

usual foundation, just give an extra glowy radiant look to the skin.

BioNike
Defence Colour
Blusher

Now BioNike is not a brand that you would automatically think of for make-up
unless perhaps you had sensitive, rosecea or intolerant skin, which I do not have,
 but I was sent this blusher at the beginning of last year,
from their Defence Colour range and I found myself
reaching for it everyday that was until the Backtalk palette came along in the 
middle of the year.
I found it to be such an easy,quick to apply and flattering everyday shade.

MY URBAN DECAY HAUL

For months now we have known that Urban Decay have been planning to open 

a store in Gateway Theatre of Shopping  (North of Durban), 

but little did we know that it's been a two year undertaking to find 

the correct position within the centre. 

Finally, in all its purple glory, it opened a couple of Friday's ago and I was lucky 

to have been invited along to the VIP opening prior to its officially launch

 on Saturday 28th July.

Urban Decay have 3 stand alone stores around SA and if I'm not mistaken

 their latest is also the largest. 

Urban Decay have been around for the past 20 years or so and their motto is 

URBAN DECAY

Beauty with an Edge.

Urban Decay over the past two decades have never stopped experimenting

and now offer an endless array of high performance cosmetics that are much 

loved around the world and I'm happy to see we have our own store

here in Gateway.

            

 Their stores, besides looking fantastic are easy to navigate around and all of 

the products are well displayed

and the staff are super helpful irrespective of whether you're looking for an edgy

metallic look, a sexy smokey eye or a classic natural look.

Make-up junkies over 40 also want Beauty With An Edge, granted maybe

 not so much of the vivid bright colours, but there is so much more to UD

than that.

Urban Decay really do cater for all ages and all skin tones, so remove those ideas

out of your head right now if you think that UD is not a cosmetics

brand for you, as you will be surprised at the selection of products on offer

and the depth of shade selection they have.

(I was shocked to see that they have 40 Eye Pencil shades)

I was also excited to see a great selection of lipsticks and glosses

from deep-dark shades to bold bright to super versatile neutrals

(all in a range of finishes)

 there’s literally "Lipsticks for Africa" and something for everyone 

and I walked away with two. 

Hi Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lipgloss in the shade BACKTALK 
and one of their popular

 Vice Lipsticks cream formula in the shade Violate, but I could have easily bought 

so many more and I'm sure I'll be back.

Urban Decay are perhaps most infamous 

for their Naked Eye Shadow Palettes (of which there are now several) 

and I've been eyeing the Naked Ultimate Basics Eye Palette for sometime now

 online and have even picked it up in Selfridges in London only to 

put it down again in favour of the IT Cosmetics CC Cream. (Sorry UD)

This palette contains all matte shadows, which are definitely more flattering

 on an older woman like "moi" and I'm hoping that once I've reviewed 

this palette it will be one that I can highly recommend as the

 Ultimate eyeshadow palette "go to" for everyday neutral and natural eye looks. 

As we were lucky enough to be gifted this palette,I thought I would buy 

myself the other palette that was on my radar, 

the more recently launched BACKTALK Eye and Face Palette. 

This collection revolves around soft nudes and pinks and I have to say I love the 

look of this pretty selection of eye and face shades.

I will be doing full reviews on both of the above and I'll be giving you my recommendations, as to whether they're worth the spend of R860.

been reduced and is now selling for R430)

My next purchase was an eyeshadow primer, as I know all too well that as we get 

older sometimes our eyeshadow doesn't stay in the same place, as we applied it 

or it has that nasty habit of creasing or collecting in the folds of the skin, 

that unfortunately only highlights any creepiness on the eyelid even more,

so I'll be putting the Eyeshadow Primer Potion to the test and of course I opted for

 the Anti-Ageing formula.

Over the coming weeks I will post my thoughts and opinions on these products

from Urban Decay, thus enabling you to make your own mind up as to whether

its worth spending your money on or not.

Just a spoiler though... I already give a thumbs up to two.

URBAN DECAY ALL NIGHTER MAKE-UP SETTING SPRAY #TBT REVIEW

This is a throwback to May 2019 when we had URBAN DECAY in South Africa

and I had a store, literally, 5 minutes from my house.

URBAN DECAY is a favourite of mine despite not being their typical age demographic

but who cares these days and UD have lots to please the more mature amongst us.

Sadly UD is now back on my overseas shopping list and this product in particular

I'm nearly at the end of my back-up stash from their closing down sale, which is

a pity, as this is such a great product.

I wasn't sure if I actually needed this product in my life or not, but I knew that I 

had FOMO that "fear of missing out" feeling.

So many users absolutely rave about this make-up setting spray and to be honest

 I was curious, but cautious.

On occasion I have been known to be suckered into the beauty hype that surrounds

certain products, especially when the products have been gifted to Beauty Bloggers, 

however it's a different story when you still read rave reviews from bloggers 

that have taken their own cash and bought the product.

So I decided to take the R460 plunge...

URBAN DECAY have become one of my favourite make-up brands over 

the past year and I haven't yet been disappointed with any of 

my purchases or items that have been gifted.

UD currently have several make-up setting sprays on offer, but it was the 

All Nighter

that appealed to me the most and the one that is most coveted by 

other brands.

All make-up wearers will agree that when we apply in the morning, 

our make-up looks good, but sadly the same cannot be said as the 

day progresses and even more so in hot humid climates 

(like Durban experiences in February)

 and this is where a make-up setting spray can really help...

The All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray claims to keep makeup looking like 

its been just-applied for up to 16 hours—

without melting, fading or settling into fine lines.

Developed in an exclusive partnership with Skindinavia, their groundbreaking, tested formula is suitable for all skin types, free of oil and parabens, and

 features patented Temperature Control Technology. 

Yep, this spray actually lowers the temperature of your makeup to keep

 foundation, eyeshadow, blush and concealer in place—even in hot and 

humid or cold and windy conditions and it sounded perfect, 

but did it do all that it claims?

Yes, Yes and more Yes's, 

it lived up to all the hype, praise and awards bestowed on the product.

There was no transfer, no fading, no settling into the lines and more 

importantly for me no melting, your make-up stays in place literally all day

 and all night if needed.

I must mention here for those people that don't like to spray products 

onto their face, an important point of difference between this setting spray

 and others on the market, the UD spray delivers a calibrated, microfine mist 

that goes on so light, leaves no stickiness on the skin and you hardly feel 

anything on the skin at all.

How To Use:

After applying makeup, shake bottle well, hold 8"–10" away and mist face

 2–4 times, in an “X” and “T” formation. 

Close eyes before misting.

 If you want extra intense shadow colour, less fallout and even longer wear, 

then wet your brush with All Nighter before you apply.

My initial scepticism aside, after one application on a very hot and humid 

February day in Durban, I  quickly realised that I so needed this product

 in my life and it has now become the final step in my make-up routine 

and just for the record I don't regret my 

R460 plunge at all...

URBAN DECAY NAKED ULTIMATE BASICS EYESHADOW PALETTE {REVIEW}

For sometime now I've been on the lookout for a quality palette that contains 

subtle matte eye shadows. 

Matte shadows are far more flattering for the older woman, as with age

 the skin on your eyelid becomes more crepey.

Applying eyeshadow definitely becomes more challenging as we age and shimmery shadows only accentuate any creepiness and can be more ageing, hence why so

many women opt to stop using eyeshadows altogether.

This Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics palette contains 12 basic matte shades 

and it was all that I wanted it to be and more. There's no doubt that the Urban Decay shadow formula's are not only true to colour, they're easy to apply, buildable 

and blend easily and with very little powder fall out.

They don't crease and they lasted for as long as I needed them to.

This selection of 12 shades offer pink nudes, pale and warm browns and burnt oranges

and it covers all you need to create endless natural eye looks from just a wash 

of neutral colour all over the eye area, to a more smokey eye look. 

(I've actually used all of the colours in this palette, which is not the norm for me,

 as there's normally at least one shade that I don't like) 

This palette contains several light shades, which I tend to use the most of, 

especially for highlighting my ever decreasing eye lid area and under the eyebrow. 

There's also a lovely selection of darker shades to use along the lash line and of course several very wearable transitional shades.

The sleek palette comes with a useful large mirror and one application brush, 

which I personally never use from any palettes regardless of the brand.

The palette also has a quality feel in the hand,which I enjoyed.

The purpose of my search was to find one quality eyeshadow palette that contains a useful selection of flattering natural, basic matte shades that I can confidently recommend to everyone, but particularly to the more mature of us and I'm excited that Urban Decay delivers just that with their 

Naked Ultimate Basics... 

It's name is very apt as in my opinion it is the Ultimate Basic Palette and its one that

should be in everyones hand...

URBAN DECAY NAKED RELOADED PALETTE #TBT REVIEW

Sadly URBAN DECAY withdrew from the South African market during the

2nd half of 2020 and I for one was sad about it, as I was a fan of UD and have reviewed and 

loved many of their products.

My review on the NAKED RELOADED palette dates back to April 2019, so prices

will have changed.

After several weeks of use, I've finally managed to put down into words my feelings about this 

"super hyped" eyeshadow palette.

Never a brand to follow the generic brand packaging norm, 

URBAN DECAY recently launched their NAKED RELOADED 

Palette and when it comes to the packaging, this cushioned fabric Orchid print palette not only 

looks trés chic, but it also feels weighty and very comfortable in the hand.

Sadly the birth of the new NAKED RELOADED followed the demise of the globally and much loved original NAKED Palette.

It was a sad moment for many URBAN DECAYERS, but thankfully it has been replaced with a

 collection of 12 "must have" universally flattering shades in a palette thats been designed for everyone

any age, gender, and skin tone.

If you're looking for a collection of flattering shades that will cover all your essential 

 nude/neutral/brown requirements plus a little extra, then this is the ultimate palette to have in your eyeshadow collection.

The selection includes soft mattes, satins, metallics and a little sparkly glitter is thrown in 

for good measure...

I'm also happy to report that UD have included 4 larger outer pans of the lighter shades,

that are used the most for highlighting and inevitably, on any eyeshadow palette, they always 

finish before the others.

After a couple of months of use I can excitedly report back that the formula of these shadows fall 

into that buttery, velvety texture with a rich colour payoff and are easy to blend and work with.

One piece of advise though - do ensure that you tap any excess shadow off you brush before 

application, as there will be shadow fall out, but its nothing that isn't easily brushed away with

 out leaving any pigment behind.

The longevity of the shadow was good with no creasing or fading, however I have become an

 unexpected and huge fan of the URBAN DECAY Eyeshadow Potion

and without doubt it helps to keep your eyeshadows in place all day.

All of the 12 shades are very wearable and I have surprisingly found myself using 

all of the shades at some point, but reaching daily for the following ones:

 and for a slightly more evening,shimmery smokey eye look I just add a touch of:

It's known, here in south Africa, that UD Eyeshadow Palettes generally weigh in on the pricey side, usually around R800-R900, however the NAKED RELOADED weighs in at a much more 

appealing price of R695.

 This palette is not only worth its "Super Hyped" status, but its got to be

the NAKED Palette to own above all others.
